Happy New Year!
I hope that 2016 has treated you well so far. The beginning of a new year has reminded me of important aspects of my job that I make sure to do to add to the success of my clients.
One of those things is very simple, but not something everyone in my position does. I like to feel completely prepared for a project, so I always do background research on my client before working with them. From this, I discover what their brand is about, their look, and get a feel for some of their recent work. This way, I can go into a job already knowing what type of style the client is looking for and better understand their needs.
When working with one of my clients, a high-end New York lingerie brand, they were trying to describe something that they did in one of their recent campaigns, and I was able to pull out my tablet with their website already pulled up and discuss with them. This impressed them and the client very much appreciated that I was prepared.
I have learned through my years of experience, that being prepared means not only having all of the needed materials as a makeup artist, but also having background knowledge on the client in order to be able to assist with other things on set.
