What I love about makeup is, I work with a broad spectrum of skin colors. This can be very challenging and some makeup artists just don't know what to do with different skin coloring. I hear from my African American clients that when they have their makeup done by others, their skin can look too ashy, or their dark brown skin is all of a sudden looking white!
I often see the look on their face when they see me on set and I understand their concern. What could a white makeup artist know about black skin....
Well, I have to say, I love it! The different colors I blend to make a perfect palette to compliment specific skin tones is my specialty! Perhaps it's the artist and painter in me. Perhaps it's the challenge to show people what I am capable of doing. And then seeing the results on my clients, receiving compliments of good work from them, recommending me, reconnecting and counting on me in future projects. It's all very gratifying.
